Questions about rooting the Sprint version HTC 10

So, I am pretty much stuck with Sprint, so if I want to upgrade my HTC 10 I am going to have to get a phone through them.

First of all, Sprint dosen't block you from using HTC's root method on their phones, do they?

And also, I read that using HTC's method now will only invalidate part of your warranty, but not all of it? I couldn't find any confirmation on this, most were from forum posts from years ago. I especially would like to know about physical defects or issues such as Uh Oh protection still applying if you are rooted.

And finally, once I root my phone, would I then have root access on the installed stock rom, or would I have to re-flash it with a custom rom that was made for root access?

Backup Questions

I have a new phone, Samsung Galaxy J7, with Android 6.01, NOT rooted.I have read a lot of threads about backup, but none that really answer my questions.

Here are some things that I DON"T need backed up--contacts, calendar, e-mail messages, etc. Because I have an Exchange account (also Gmail Imap account), and those items will sync from there. I also would not need a backup app for photos, music, etc. Photos are files on my SD card that I can easily copy to the computer. Music files are first on my computer, that I transfer to the SD card. No need for a backup app for that. Apps themselves need no backup, as they can always get re-downloaded from the app store, and frequently update anyhow.

What I need backup for, is what will not sync from Exchange nor Imap, nor files that can be copied from and to the computer. Mostly settings--the general phone and Android settings, home screens, accounts, etc. (So that if something goes wrong with the phone and all that is lost, I would not have to spend hours setting it all up from scratch, entering account info again, etc. Also helpful-settings for apps.

I installed the Helium app, that reviews say is a good backup app (free version). I do not find it very useful. I have no idea why it makes you connect to the computer, then initiate its desktop app, just to verify the app somehow? But then, it will not backup to the computer! Nor even to the SD card. It does have an option to backup to the cloud with the pro version, but I would rather backup locally. It only backs up to internal phone memory. What use is that if the phone gets messed up and that backup is no longer in internal memory?

Furthermore, I see in Helium no way to backup phone settings, account into, etc. It can backup apps, or only app data. So I backed up the app data, went to a folder in internal memory called Carbon, and I copied that folder to the SD card and external HDD. Yet I do not find that very helpful.

I see that in the OS Settings that Google automatically backs up settings, etc., to one's Google Cloud account. OK. That's good. But I see no way to restore. Only that when one reinstalls an app, it will automatically reinsall the settings for that app. That's good. Perhaps no use for the app settings backup from Helium then. But what if something goes wrong on the phone and my homescreens get messed up? How would automatic restore help that? It is good if Google is automatically saving all my phone settings to the cloud. But if I have no way to manually restore them, what use is that? (Perhaps would work for app settings, as described, but not for phone and OS settings, accounts, etc.)

Could anyone tell me, is there a way to backup the info as I dscribed above, either through an internal feature, or with an external app (that does not requrie root), so that if the phone gets messed up somehow i can quickly and easily restore it to how it was?

(Surprised that Android does not have a feature like System restore in Windows.)

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

can someone here please clear up a few questions for me?

first of all, I'm new to android Modding and I was able to flash the unofficial CM12 rom and before that I'd also taken a nandoroid backup of my stock Rom. Now I have a few questions and was wondering if someone could point me to the right direction.

So, now that I'm on twrp for new layout, will I have to go back to the old twrp in order to flash older roms such as those based on kitkat and jelly bean etc?

If I flash the old twrp now, will the Nandoroid backup (that I took earlier) on the 'twrp for new layout' work? In other words, are the backups taken from twrp with new layout are compatible with the older twrp ?

since this new cm12 seems to be a bit sluggish and I want to flash a kitkat rom while I'm on this cm12, will I have to do it from old twrp? And if so, what about going back to older layout? How is it generally done?

And lastly, I have noticed that some roms come with custom kernels. How is one supposed to find the right kernel for one's device? Is flashing a custom kernel the same as flashing roms?

Thanks in advance!

Several questions about Moto Z Force

I picked up my Moto Z Force at Best Buy on Thursday. I couldn't pass up their deal. Getting this phone for 4 with the JBL SoundBoost speaker is awesome. I compared to regular Z before buying and the Force felt better in my hand (plus it has some great other upgrades). I'm loving the phone. I upgraded from a Droid Turbo and it is a significant jump up.

Several questions:
1. With my Droid Turbo when ever I connected to a Quick Charge 2 device (battery, car charger, and wall usb charger) the phone would indicate with a message that I was turbo charging. With the Moto Z Force I'm not getting a message with my bought Quick Charge 3 battery, car charger, and wall usb charger (Anker and Aukey). With the Force I'm only getting the "TurboPower Connected" message when I use the supplied wall charger. Is there anyway to confirm I'm charging at Quick Charge 3 speeds with my other devices? I'm hoping this can be done via software on phone.

2. It has been a while since I have used a micro sd card in phone. I'm loving I can do this with Moto Z even though getting card out is kind of pain in ass and you need special tool as well. I have the 200gb Sandisk Ultra Micro SD which I picked up a while back on sale for . Read speeds on this card are decent but write speeds are pretty slow. I'm noticing that speeds are significantly slower transferring large files to phone (with card in it) with cord vs. pulling card and doing with memory card reader. Is this normal? Is there any way to improve these speeds?

3. I'm looking for a good ultra thin case. I would like to add the least amount bilk and weight possible. I picked up a TPU case on amazon but it a bit bulky. Ideally I would like to get a thin polycarbonate case like Spigen's Thin Fit. Does anyone here know of a case like this for the Z Force?

Thanks!

Few questions about Galaxy S7 Edge Exynos

Hi! I'm thinking about buying Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (international with Exynos) but I have few questions. I would be glad if someone could answer them:

1. Does the international variant of Galaxy S7 come with unlocked bootloader?
1. a) If yes, how it the bootloader protected? Can I be sure that someone can't just root my phone or modify the system somehow via ODIN? Is it well protected against physical attacks? I have no intention to root it or flash custom roms, but my bootloader has to be properly secured. I like the way how it works on Google Nexus devices. To flash anything unsigned, I have to enable OEM unlocking (which require my password) and unlock the bootloader via fastboot, which will wipe my data. Is it working the similar way on a S7 Edge? And is the system protected against downgrading?
2. When I buy the phone from my local carrier and it come with their customized software, can I just download the unbranded one from sammobile, flash it via ODIN and lose all the crap from the carrier?
3. Is it encrypted by AES 128 (which is default for Android) or did Samsung chose AES 256 (which is also supported by Android, but not enabled by default)?
4. Are there any information about Grace UX for S7? I am worried that it might be Note only UI..
6. Is there a dedicated DAC? How does it compare to something like LG V10?
7. How does fingerprint unlocking work? Do I need to press home button, take away my finger and then put finger to the button to unlock the phone via fingerprint or I can just pressed the button, keep my finger on the button and phone will unlock?
8. How is the performance? I have Nexus 6P and it is pretty slow (because of throttling Snapdragon 810, 3GB of RAM, eMMC and lot of memory leaks). Is S7 Edge Exynos faster/smoother?
9. Does the camera support 1080p@60FPS and 240FPS video recording?
10. Is there any notable throttling? Nexus 6P is my first phone, where throttling is notable even during basic use and it's awful.. Is it better on S7 Exynos?

Thanks, I am grateful for any answers.

Questions about encryption of an unlocked OP3

Hey Guys,

When I got my OP3 I unlocked the bootloader right away and installed FreedomOS to get rid of the bloatware. As this is my first device, which comes with a locked bootloader and decryption, I have some questions about this topic. I was wondering that the encryption does not make any sense when you unlock your bootloader, because if somebody steals your phone, he can just enter twrp and access all your data. Then I flashed CM and after that TWRP was asking me to set a pin or pattern to lock my phone. Now I've to unlock my phone every time I want to enter the recovery or boot the system with a pattern, which is great, because now the encryption is not worthless anymore. Now I'm asking myself if this feature is somehow integrated into CM or was it just random that I found this feature? Is there any way to get this also with OOS installed? What things do I have to note to not accidentally make my phone unencryptable with the pattern? Is this even possible, maybe by flashing a new recovery or so?

Thanks in advance

Thinking about switching from Nexus 5, few questions

  1. Does the 1080p resolution result in visible pixels? How well will the phone do with a VR headset due to the low resoution for a 5.5 inch display?

  2. Battery life of my N5 never was good, after 3 years of use it's really bad. How much of an improvement can I expect?

  3. How much more power in real life experience can I expect from the Snapdragon 820 compared to the N5's 800?

  4. Do you think the switch is generally worth it? I was thinking about waiting for the new Nexus devices, but the pricing of the N6P makes me think I won't get as much bang for the buck as I do when buying the Oneplus 3.

Few questions about changing roms [S6] Please Help

Hi,

Details about phone: Samsung S6 (G920I) I can't remember the exact ROM im on (yes im a noob). However my build number is LMY47X, which when searched by most views comes up with this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...pha-1-t3107740) Android version 5.1.1 I have TWRP v. 3.0.2-1 as my custom recovery.

So my phone keeps restarting randomly been getting worse over the past few weeks. So I want to try a new ROM (had my current one for like 8 months). So I made a ROM back up just in case through TWRP and backed up all my user data through Titanium and exported both of it onto my PC.

I found a ROM I want to use "XtreStoLite" ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...n-1-0-t3094423) but I have a few questions before I try to install it.

First of will this work fine for the current setup I have?

Since I'm on 5.1.1 and they have a ROM version for 6.0.1 will I be able to install this version or do I have to use the 5.1.1 version? I've tried updating to 6.0.1 on my current ROM but my provider won't let me update OTA. Only way is to remove root and return it back to the stock ROM which I don't really want to do if I can avoid it.

Please help, any information will be greatly appreciated, feel free to ask any questions.

Several questions about XT1040

Hi, like two years ago I bought a Moto G XT1040 and it came with CM12. I installed custom ROMs before on my old Xperia X8 and I kind of know a little bit about it.
The thing is I wanted to make a fresh install of any Android 4.4+ ROM to be able to play Pokemon GO. My phone is slower lately, and I don't really know how the internal storage is so small... the phone says it has 5.52GB total space and I only have 1GB free. I don't even have more than 85MB of pictures+videos in my phone, the only "big" apps I downloaded are Facebook Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Chrome, YouTube, ES File Explorer, Candy crush, Gmail and Neko atsume (lol). In total I have around 1,8GB on apps, the rest is like 1.25gb on MISC, is that the space required by the ROM alone or what? I install every app I can on SD, but still I'm missing space, is there any ROM where I can really install my apps on SD and free more space?
I don't currently have a USB cable in case of any "emergency", so I want to take a safe choice... something I can do by downloading the files into my phone and know that everything should be fine at the moment of installation. Sumarizing:
- I have a Moto G XT1040 (I thing it's LTE, supports 4G, not really sure). Rom: CM 12-20150126-NIGHTLY-peregrine (Lollipop 5.0.2). Kernel: 3.4.42-gfaa9160
- I want to do a fresh install 'cause it's slow and I need to free space
- I want to play Pokemon Go with it, so I need a 4.4+ ROM, what are good choices for this phone? I mean, something that can run fast enough
- Would be cool to have a stable version to be safe 'cause I don't have a USB cable right now

Oh and also, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this phone, 'cause I've only found things for XT1039... on the other Moto G forum (2014 LTE) there were more recent versions, so I'm kinda lost.

Thanks.

Custom ROM questions

If I install any custom ROM, how do you go back to stock ROM?

And I'm worried there's no camera app that utilizes the LG camera like the stock LG camera app.

Questions about CM13

Hi, I'm going to flash CM13 and I'm confusing about several problems.
-Are there anyway to use manual mode in Asus PixelMaster without distortion (get rid of the s#*tty green image)? I read in a topic that I can disable the built in camera app, is it true?
-How to imrove battery life in CM13?
-Is Pokémon GO working on CM13?

Two USB Questions: MTP and Daydream

I've been using the Moto G4 Plus for about a week now, and it's working well for me. Some of my questions I've been able to answer via usage or research, but there are two minor ones that I'm curious about:
  1. Under the "Developer options" settings, I have the "Select USB Configuration" option set to "MTP "Media Transfer Protocol". However, when I connect to my PC via USB, I get a notification "USB for charging", and I have to open that and select that and change the setting to "Use USB for FIle Transfers". Is there a way to have MTP (vs. charging) default when connecting the cable?

  2. I use the Daydream option when charging and docked. In those cases, Daydream runs for a while, but after a period of time the screen goes completely blank. Is there a display setting to keep Daydream running as long as I'm connected to the charger or dock?

Thanks in advance for any insight that anyone may have.

AT&T to tmobile questions

So last time I had a Samsung device it was a S3 and I have been using and loving my nexus 6 however it finally got a nasty crack in it so I'm downgrading to a Samsung s6. My nexus 6 was originally from AT&T and I just had to fill out some form online to unlock it to work on tmobile and I plan to do the same with the s6 however i was reading up and someone said their are differences between the s6 on AT&T and tmobile most notably Hotspot and wifi calling are disabled. Is this still true? Will I need to flash a TMobile ROM on my s6? Or will those features be unlocked once I insert my tmobile sim card? Thanx in advance.

Questions Regarding Bootanimations

Hey guys first thread here on xda so please be understanding.

This post is created around Bootanimations. Yes I know there are other threads out there but here anyone can ask any question about them. I have researched them quite a while now and I think I can help.

So I myself would like to ask something as I did not find an answer no matter how many forums I searched in as I recenty created a bootanimation. The problem is that despite the fact that I have made it exactly for the phone's dimensions (LG G3), it is displayed very slowly. Why is this happening? Specifications below.

Dimensions : 1440 x 2560
FPS : 30
Total Images : 571
Image Format : PNG
Total Folders : 41
ZIP Size : 32 MB

Questions before buying unlocked phone

Hi,

I'm looking into buying a Z5 Compact unlocked since I don't want something 5 inches or bigger.

I'm hoping to not install custom roms, at least not until Sony stops supporting it.

I've got a few questions :
Will I be able to get the stock rom updates from Sony or manually install them (without unlocking the bootloader)? My carrier doesn't sell the Z5 or Z5 Compact so I doubt I will receive updates from it.
I have read a few threads that makes me worried about the phone. People seems to say it's sluggish and the camera app takes a while to start. Is it working better on the latest stock rom?
Is the stock rom good or should I really look into flashing a custom rom?

Would you guys recommend another Android phone? I would like a compact phone that can last me for a good 3 years, maybe a little more. Right now I own a Nexus 4 that is a little over 3 years old and while it still working rather well it is starting to show signs of its age (like the battery that doesn't last for very long anymore and the phone sometimes struggle running the latest games...)

Thanks

Some questions on charging battery issue

Hey guys. Just wanna ask some question.

My note 10.1 2014 P601 is now running stock 5.1.1 un-rooted. Basically everything stock. I know that our Note need its own charger to work properly. But I lost the original charger long ago, and I've been using only the USB I bought separately to charge my tablet by connecting it to PC.

Now, my mother just bought a new phone (Galaxy A7) and when I try to charge my tablet with her charger, sometime it shows X mark (which means insufficient, exactly like when i connect to pc via USB cable) on the battery icon, but sometime it shows the lightning (which is fine) icon. The speed of the charge depends on that sign, if on lightning sign, from 0 to 100% takes about 4h. But if on the X mark sign, 4h will just get around 40%.

I don't really know what happened, but I have to unplug then re-plug again and again to get the lightning sign to come up. I then bought a new charger (from a legit well-known store and they said it's the best quality) and it does the same thing. I haven't got a chance to borrow anyone's original note charger yet as I found no one using this device. And now I start to think it's the problem with my Note more likely than anything. I haven't tried to reinstall the firmware either as I just updated the firmware like few months ago.

I've been using it for about a year btw. Sorry for my English. And looking forward to hear from you all.
