Restore point not working - incompatible software versions - downgrade?

I was to turn in my phone (Sony Xperia Z1 compact) for a warranty issue (battery acting up). The guy in the store told me there would be a factory reset at the service point so I went home, used the built in Sony approved "Backup & Restore" app (with current experience - DO NOT USE IT!!!). To be safe I created 3 different restore points (just in case) and stored to my SD card. I backed up everything, contact list, messages, photos etc using the sony app. To be extra safe I did install the google + app to backup my contact list (wich of course also failed, it only backup up 6 of my ~500 contacts, don´t ask me why).

Got the phone back today. Battery replaced (nice!). Software upgraded - Didn´t ask for that but lets see. Went home. Popped in my SD card with my restore points, selected to restore and got the message: "Cannot restore - Selected backup records cannot be used du to incompatible software versions. Please select a more recent backup file". After searching the internet and spending an hour chatting with the sony support it seems I´m pretty much screwed. That (useless) app appears to ONLY be working if used on the exact same phone model with the exact same OS version.

The guy at Sony tells me that the only way to handle this is to unlock the boot loader wich will void my warranty. I asked if it was possible to just pull the contacts and messages from the backup file but no, according to him that app stores the backup up stuff in a non-typical way wich is impossible to reach unless you have the correct version on the phone.

It seems like there are a lot of smartheads in this forum, does anyone have an idea on how to either pull the vital data from the backup or any other idea? The boot loader unlock option is not very tempting since it will void my warranty, not give me automatic updates in the future and on top of that there is a risk I´ll screw up my phone for good.

As a last comment, it would have been nice if the App informed you about the fact that it would only work on the same OS-version, that would for sure have made me think twice and made at least one backup using another system but no. I found threads about this as early as december 2013, still users will continue to loose all their data. A simple popup with that information would save a lot of people a lot of headache.

Xperia z1 keep data after test point repair??????????????

So I have a dead Xperia Z1 c6903, I will try to revive him using the test point method but I dont know what will happen with all my data inside the phone. Is there any way to keep my data and successfully restore the phone?

Any point in trying?

I have had the the bootloop issue just this morning. Not having found much on the internet, I decided to try some stuff out. I have a slightly different problem, the phone "turns on" - the LG Logo appears and the screen goes black, except the "ping" sound Windows makes upon connecting to a device is made, and when I take it out a second "ping" sound is made, thus I know it is switched on. In the device manager on windows, I have found this: Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3). I was wondering, can anything be done to unbrick it, could I flash a KDZ file, or will it just fail? I am not under warranty any more, and I am willing to try anything, including some hardware fixes. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OTA Update Fails with Exclamation Point; Can BL be unlocked?

Up until recently I forgot I had this phone and resurrected it to use it as a home phone/webcam.
When I powered it on it received an OTA but it reboots and almost immediately I have a dead Android with a red exclamation point; which I think means recovery is borked?
Is this recoverable? Can this boot loader be unlocked?
4.1.2 / JZO54K / P76920f

I don't want to spend a terrible amount of effort on this so if it requires jumping through hoops, fuhgeddaboudit.

Having difficulty in finding system mount point

As an experimentation, I'm trying to take a full ROM backup of my Karbonn A35 (a little known MTK based phone) using this method. However, I'm unable to find the "by-name" folder inside /dev/block/platform. There is only one folder there called mtk-msdc.0. This is the output when I run cat /proc/partitions from the adb shell:

Code:

major minor  #blocks  name

  7        0      5920 loop0
 179        0    3845120 mmcblk0
 179        1          1 mmcblk0p1
 179        2      10240 mmcblk0p2
 179        3      10240 mmcblk0p3
 179        4    665600 mmcblk0p4
 179        5    385024 mmcblk0p5
 179        6    1355776 mmcblk0p6
 179        7    1382144 mmcblk0p7
 179      64      2048 mmcblk0boot1
 179      32      2048 mmcblk0boot0

And here is the output of cat /proc/mounts

Code:

tmpfs /storage/sdcard0/.android_secure tmpfs ro,relatime,size=0k,mode=000 0 0

Is there any easy way to backup the ROM using dd command from inside the shell?

The reason I want to backup the ROM is that later on I want to root and install CWM, CyanogenMod, etc. The said phone (Karbonn A35) is I think a rebranded version of HTC FairPhone First Edition because that's what it says in the lsusb.
