.nomedia issue after restoring nandroid backup

Hi Guys,

I had cyanogenmodx rom installed for quite sometime. Since past few weeks was facing weird network & calling issues in the ROM, so decided to fall back on my recovery of rooted stock kitkat 4.4.2. To my surprise, the gallery shows only blank images now & upon opening them throws 'Could not load image' error. However the same image opens up flawlessly on ES explorer. I did some research & found that the issue is due to .nomedia files being present which stop the media storage from recognizing the data. I have tried deleting the .nomedia files but somehow they keep on regenerating. I did not have this issue with the rom that I had backed up so not exactly sure how this issue has occured.

Can someone guide me to a potential solution?
