Android System battery drain and crazy overheating

So yeah, this is a Galaxy S4 I've had for over three years (bought it on May 6 2013, started using about three weeks later on May 30). It's a non-LTE i9500 model purchased in Indonesia, rooted back on KitKat but unrooted to update to Lollipop and have not re-rooted since. Running Android 5.0.1 with Dec security patch, and just re-flashed stock firmware from SamMobile trying to fix its horrible battery life, but not possible it seems. Battery is about a year old and is my third unit after the first two swelled up and became unusable, this one seems fine but has a habit of dropping quickly when used and regaining some battery power on standby. When used for light browsing the processor heats up to almost insane levels not even the famously hot Snapdragon 808 reaches on my G4, but cools down quickly as well, with the software never acknowledging such heat and remaining responsive throughout the whole time. Is there any technical explanation for such occurences?
